My look, Her Look, Mom's Look

It's been WAY too long since I've done a My Look, Her Look, Mom's Look but I'm excited to bring it back today. I've been dreaming about the shoes above since the first day I laid eyes on the Loeffler Randall Spring/Summer campaign. They are the perfect combination of casual and dressy all in one. There are not many places I go that these shoes would not be acceptable. From biking to a game in the outfit I pulled together below, to a date night thrown on with a dress or skirt like in MK's outfit or if you're lucky enough for sandals to be appropriate for work mom's outfit would definitely be a go to me!
denim shorts | stripe t-shirt | necklace | sunglasses | watch | backpack
My look is super casual and comfortable. That's the main reason I love these shoes. If I spend too long trying on an outfit I tend to always just grab my most comfortable shoes. In the winter that's a pair of thick heeled grey booties and I've been on the hunt for a summer pair to fit this need. I think these may just be the ticket!
bucket bag | sheer stripe shirt | brass necklace | chambray skirt | gold hoop earrings | wallet
I'm kind of obsessed with the outfit I pulled together for MK. It's hard to see in the image above but that top is slightly sheer in between each stripe. I love that! The colors are so soft and feminine but the sheer makes it a little edgy. That top combined with the gorgeous white bucket bag is the perfect combination!
navy pants | red sweater | white button down | gold hoop earrings | perforated bag | gold collar necklace | glasses
I love that this look is equally appropriate for my mom but for really for anyone in a professional environment too! I honestly think most people own something similar to all of the pieces shown above, minus the cool collar necklace, but throw on a fun new pair of shoes and your outfit is instantly transformed.

Which is your favorite? I'm really digging MK's look this time!

My Look, Her Look, Mom's Look

I bought last year's version of this sweater in camel and wore it all the time so when I saw Gap was producing it again this year I knew it was perfect for a My Look, Her Look, Mom's Look.  I love how the cut and style are super classic but when it's paired with different items it takes on a more dressy, edgy or playful look.
watch | glasses | scarf | skirt | booties | wallet | earrings
I think this outfit is so fun. I absolutely LOVE this leather skirt, the lines are feminine but the color and leather keep it interesting.  The traditional style of the sweater tones down the leather just enough to where I think this could be worn to even a more conservative office with a classic pump - but the booties are way more fun!

jeans | sunglasses | earrings | boots | flats | backpack | bracelet
I realized as I was pulling this together that MK may not wear boots but I loved this outfit too much with boots so I included a boot and a flat option. Both are equally cute but maybe this is the winter I get MK into boots.  Either way this outfit is perfect for running around town and hauling all of V's "stuff" in that cute backpack.

necklace | bracelets | pants | flats | earrings | handbag | lipstick
Anyone who knows my mom knows her love of black pants and this sweater is no exception.  I love how a pair of sleek pants can dress up the otherwise casual sweater.  With flats this is the perfect outfit for the office but she could easily throw on a pair of low heels for a dinner party.

Really this sweater is so versatile guys, I had a hand full of others options I was loving too; cream corduroy pants, a fun short mini skirt or patterned pants.  I can see it working with all your basics leftover from last year too. There is just no end to the options.  I can vouch for it's coziness too!

My Look, Her Look, Mom's Look

Isn't this navy and white tunic the perfect transition piece?! It makes me instantly think of the beach but can easily be worn before summer trips with shorts or white jeans for the spring. With classic navy stripes I think you can easily keep it classic and simple or add a little spunk with some bright colors and patterns, it pretty much goes with anything. Take a look at what I paired it with for mom, MK and myself…
1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7
I really played up the casual vibe of the tunic for my look. Paired with simple leather sandals and the perfect leather tote (that I may pull the trigger on soon) the look stays casual without feeling too beachy. I had to add a little color with a fun stack of bracelets and my go to accessory, a scarf.
1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6
MK's look is a little dressier but equally wearable through the spring and summer. I love the mix of colors here with the peachy necklace and kiwi shorts to brighten the outfit. The best part about this look to me is it's ability to transition from day to night. The gold accessories and sandals could just as easily be worn to the park and on a dinner date.
1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6
Mom's look is a classic and a somewhat more sophisticated take on the tunic. It's a little less playful than the others but sometimes you need to look a little more put together. This look is perfect for a casual work event as well. I may be strange but I don't care to wear shorts to a conservative work event.

I talked about how great espadrilles are for transitioning seasons here and here but tunics are another great option. They're lightweight enough to wear with jeans in the spring but easy to throw on over a swimsuit or shorts all summer long. I have my eye on this one too! Do you guys have any go to transition pieces?

My Look, Her Look, Mom's Look

When I saw this skirt in the new J.Crew style guide something about it stuck with me. I just knew it could be so versatile. It's a little out of my comfort zone with the a-line fit but the fabric looks light enough to lay nicely and I love the subtle hint of black and white. It adds just enough interest to this skirt to keep it from being too little girly for me.
Old Navy shirt, Forever 21 sunglasses, H&M scarf, Club Monaco clutchEddie Borgo earringsSole Society shoes
The casual concept behind this outfit was my first thought when I saw this skirt. I love love love the chambray shirt against the black and white lines. The lack of color in the skirt allows you to be more playful with color in your shoes too. I don't usually do lots of color in an outfit so I left the remaining accessories neutral but fun.
Givenchy earrings, Soludos espadrilles, Forever 21 sunglasses, H&M sweater,
Clare Vivier bag
If I'm being honest this may be a little out of MK's comfort zone but I think it would be such a cute casual option for her transitioning to spring. The flats are easy to wear and I kept the accessories minimal(because Virginia is in a grabbing earrings phase)with cute stud earring, big sunglasses and a giant bag to house anything and everything she needs to carry these days.
TopShop blazer and top, Forever 21 sunglasses, Kate Spade earrings, and Club Monaco pumps
This outfit was my second thought, when I saw this skirt. Black and white is a classic combination so I thought it would be so pretty to play up the traditional lines and colors here. Paired with a classic nude/blush pump(to elongate your leg) and a fitted blazer this is a classic outfit without being boring at all.

Like I mentioned here, I struggle with the concept of dressing for work and for the weekend so I loved that this skirt has the ability to be worn on the weekend with either of the top outfits above but could also be worn in a more corporate environment just like in mom's look. Bonus - if it's still chilly where you live I think the crisp white would look great against black tights right now. I also think this skirt would be so cute worn with a silk top for an evening out. You could keep it classic with black or add a color, mint or jewel tone would especially pretty. I think it's such a versatile piece! What do you think?

My Look, Her Look, Mom's Look

Rochelle Behrens Icon Shirt
There is nothing more classic than a white button down shirt. It can be worn with anything, literally anything. I'm betting everyone owns at least one which is why I picked it for this month's My Look, Her Look, Mom's Look. I specifically picked the Icon Shirt because I've been eyeing it for a while now. There are hidden buttons in between every one of the visible buttons on this shirt. Not only does this eliminate gapping but it helps you achieve a more casual perfectly unbuttoned look.
Henry and Belle jeans, Joie scarf, Fossil belt, Madewell handbag, Michael Kors watch, Corinne McCormack glasses, Report booties
My look is a more casual look. I tend to dress more casual but I also wanted to show the versatility of the shirt. This is the perfect example of where a little more of an unbuttoned look would fit. Jeans and a white button up is pretty old school but can feel more current with flat booties and your favorite accessories.
J.Crew skirt, Christina Jervey bracelets, TopShop handbag, Sole Society flats, Alexis Bittar earrings, Chloe sunglasses
MK's look is more feminine and would be perfect for a dinner party but with cute flats could be worn all day as well. I think the length of this skirt makes it more wearable than some of the mini's that are available today. Perfect for playing with a baby!
Kate Spade pants, glasses and earrings, Tory Burch handbag, Marc by Marc Jacobs necklace, Kurt Geiger pumps
Mom's look is a pretty classic look. I love the lack of color. I think the combination of black, white and tan is perfect here but the scallop hem on the pants keeps it playful. I'd also wear these pants to work in a heart beat.

I think this may be one of the most versatile items of clothing you can own. You can see how it can be worn from the office, to a party or even running errands around town. Since I'm keeping my closet minimal these days, these things are important!

How do you style your white button down shirt?

My Look, Her Look, Mom's Look

I think i've mentioned before how much I'm loving this green for fall so when I saw these pumps on sale I was sold. I knew they could be used so many different ways they are perfect for My Look, Her Look, Mom's look. Also this picture doesn't show the heel very well but it's snakeskin. I love the contrast of army green suede with the snakeskin!!
Blank Denim coated jeans, Cuyana sweater, Form over Function watch, Iaclli necklace, Forever 21 earrings and Mansur Gavriel handbag
I love coated jeans for the fall and something about the texture on these navy Blank Denim jeans combined with the casual feel of this oversized sweater is a perfect mix with these suede pumps. Lots of textures here but to me that is one of the best things about fall! Oh and that bag is my newest obsession. It's on my dream list.
J Brand jeans, Zara handbag, J.Crew sweater, Margaret Elizabeth earrings, and Karen Walker Sunglasses
Love how simple and classic this outfit is. These pumps may not seem overly "classic" in nature but paired with well fitting jeans, a classic bag and sweater - you're set. This outfit isn't overly complicated either because I'm guessing MK doesn't have much time on her hands getting dressed these days.
Ann Taylor blazer, Jaeger dress, Kate Spade earrings, Kelly Wearstler bracelet, Revlon lipstick, Kate Spade handbag and House of Harlow necklace
There is a lot of black happening in mom's look but that is my mom to a tee! And to be honest I love black too so I can't talk. This blazer has a little more color than is shown in the picture above and I think with gold jewelry and red lipstick it's just enough oomph for a this outfit.

How would you style these heels? I think they'd be so cute with a feminine tweed skirt too!

My Look, Her Look, Mom's Look

You guys this dress is on sale at Old Navy right now for $20. You read that right! I love a good comfortable dress that can be dressed up with shoes and accessories but is cozy enough to wear all day. I think this dress is so versatile that's why I picked it for September's My Look, Her Look, Mom's Look series.
Gap jacket, Michael Kors watch, Marc by Marc jacobs scarf, Mardwell tote, Page Sargisson earrings and Rag and Bone booties
I kept my look pretty casual to show how this dress is perfect for all day. I love how this crisp black and white dress transforms with suede booties, a leather tote and a perfect light weight jacket. I'm loving this army green color for this fall it seems to make almost any outfit a little more interesting.
Clark's booties, Marc by Marc Jacobs bag, Loft belt, Odette bracelets, Madewell earrings and Juicy Couture necklace
I am really loving MK's look this month! The bow on that belt is feminine but the leather makes it not TOO girly. I'm seeing bucket bags everywhere right now and I love them but the color on this one completely sold me. And my absolute favorite pair of booties are Clark's, (they're not ugly I promise) they're super comfortable and cute. So I ordered these booties(above) as soon as I found them online. If they are anywhere near as comfortable I am sold! You should probably all run out and get them NOW!
Jennifer Meyer earrings, Asha necklace, Joan and David shoes, Zara handbag and blazer
Mom's outfit is pretty typical with her red blazer, my mom LOVES red if you haven't caught on yet. I know she would wear these shoes all the time, she also loves basic blacks. I love the tiny little gold heel but I'm really obsessed with the tortoise pattern on these

Don't you think this dress could be worn a million ways? A casual look for me, dressier and modern for MK or pretty traditional and classic with mom's look. Love a versatile piece like this!

My Look, Her Look, Mom's Look

Right when I saw these pants on sale at J.Crew and fell in love. I'm currently on a spending hiatus while I prioritize for fall/winter but I think these may just make the list. The drawstring gives them a more casual feel while the material and deep blue color keep them dressy. And bonus they aren't nearly as slouchy as I thought they'd be, I haven't bought into the pajamas pant look yet! They're basically a comfortable dress pant, who knew it existed? It's a real dream come true for someone who works in a conservative office all day, me!
Nixon watch, Banana Republic and A-Thread Crystal Quartz necklaces, Swell Alia top,  Joe's black pumps and Joie bag
I really love a navy and black combination so I played it up big time here. This look is a bit edgier than I usually favor but I love how delicate necklaces and cream bag soften the harsh black pumps. I picture this combination being worn out to dinner or drinks but you could easily throw on that black top with more conservative black pumps for the office too.
Victoria Beckham sunglasses, Kendra Scott earrings, Tinley Road necklace, Zara top, flats and handbag
I'm loving what I pulled together for MK a lot more than I expected! I think the jewel tones would look great with her coloring and the leather bag and tassel on the flats make the floral blouse seem a bit more modern. I threw in some oversized sunglasses for her because I think she may be losing sleep in the near future with a little one taking all of her energy!
Gap blouse, Kate Spade bracelet, Coin necklace via Etsy,  basic pearl earrings, Marc by Marc Jacobs handbag, JCrew flats
This is what I would call the traditional route in styling these pants. A classic red silk blouse, pearl earrings, nude flats and a basic tan bag. May sound a bit boring, but paired with an interesting gold necklace and a kitchy bracelet I think this option would be perfect for mom! And honestly perfect for me to the wear the office and not feel too mundane.

It's somewhat hard to see the details on these pants in the photo above but they really are gorgeous pants! They're a little more than I like to spend but I'm going to watch for the sales and try to add these to my closet becuase I absolutely love the versatility in each of these combinations. They'd also look great with a really crisp white shirt and super high nude heels. Simple and clean, one of my favorite looks!

What would you wear with these pants?

My Look, Her Look, Mom's Look

When I saw this dress at Anthropologie I knew I had to pick it for this month's My Look, Her Look, Mom's Look. The knit fabric and classic cut keep this dress from being too trendy while the black and white pattern keeps it current. I love the fun mix! The price point of this dress makes it even more appealing as well as the fact that I could throw on a conservative blazer or cardigan for work or add some fun accessories (below) for after work.

Michael Kors watch, Louis et Cie via Nordstrom booties, Urban Outfitters scarf, Iosselliani necklace, Rachel Zoe bracelet and Clare Vivier clutch
For my look I really played up the unique pattern on this dress. I love this necklace so much i've added it to my wish list. I love long pedant necklaces and this one is unique and has a little color which I like too. As usual I threw in a scarf and watch because I never really leave home without those items.  I keep this camel foldover Clare Vivier clutch packed in a larger bag I carry everyday. It makes for easy transition from day to night.

Maison Boinet belt, Gorjana necklace, Kate Spade bag, Coach shoes and Elizabeth Cole earrings
For MK's look I added a big pop of color in this Kate Spade handbag. The shoes may be a stretch right now since she's 7 months pregnant but the wedge helps ease the heigh of the heel and the bow on them is such a cute contrast with the pattern on the dress. The colors on these earrings are girly but the spikes make them a little edgier than typical MK. And of course, I think she may just need to own that little delicate "V" necklace to carry her little girl with her everyday!

Gorjana necklace, Elliott Lucca bag, Topshop blazer, Enzo Angiolini shoes, and Bauble Bar earrings
This dress is definitely a little out of my mom's comfort zone but I think paired with a cute pair of red peep toe pumps and a white blazer she'd be surprised how pleased she was with the result. Throw in some thick gold hoops, a classic gold necklace and her go to crossover bag and she's all set.

I thought this dress could be a little tricky to style in three completely different ways(especially for mom!) but it proved to be a pretty neutral canvas just waiting for accessories and color to spice it up even more. On Friday I mentioned the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, but you guys should really check it out. All the shoes above are on sale for great prices right now.

How would you style this dress?

My Look, Her Look, Mom's Look

So this month we're styling these black and white patterned pants above. Patterned pants are everywhere right now and are so versatile it's great. They easily transition from work to casual day to day errands to an evening dinner party. I'm particularly loving these because they're on sale right now, you can't beat it!
Clockwise from top left: Rachael Ruddich handbag, Marc by Marc Jacob sunglasses, Zara blouse, Tabitha Simmons for J.Crew sandals and Lauren Hope earrings
With MK expecting I kept her blouse flowy to allow room for the little girl growing in her belly! I absolutely love the feminine color of these sandals and thought there was no better way to lighten up a pair of black crop pants than a billowy top and lavender sandals. MK also tends to wear smaller handbags than me but I have a feeling that may change soon with her little addition no the way, so I loved how structured this bag was while still allowing for lots of baby items to be thrown in.
Clockwise from left: Everlane tee, La Mer Collections watch, T and J Designs necklace, Primary clutch and Zara shoes
I kept my look casual with a plain white tee but dressed it up a bit with that cute highlighter necklace I've been coveting recently. I did add a little something with the heels though. I love a good pair of heels but tend to choose flats for day to day. I love the simplicity of these heels though and how they bring the entire outfit together. I feel like it just works.
Clockwise from left: Brooks Brothers shirt, Ray Ban sunglasses , Annabell Ingall tote, Loren Hope necklace, Breckelle's flats and Arosha Taglia earrings
My mom tends to wear collared shirts a lot and I don't blame her, she looks great in them and they're a classic. You can keep simple articles of clothing like a crisp white shirt fresh by adding color and updated accessories. I love the look of a D'orsay shoe (I wore them in my wedding!) and these blue flats are perfect for wearing to the office and out to dinner afterwards.

How would you style the patterned pants above? I feel like they can work in so many different ways!

My Look, Her Look, Mom's Look

A while ago, inspired by this book, MK, my mom and I all sat down and fine tuned what defined each of our styles. We thought we all had fairly similar taste, but it was interesting to see how each of us is very different. I highly recommend this book, it encourages you to sit back and truly discover what your own personal style is and discusses how simple shopping can be once you have our own "Style Statement".  It's simple, every purchase you make, you simply ask the question "does this fit into my style statement?" While this may seem a little quirky, it's actually a really interesting exercise. The other interesting part of this exercise is how one article of clothing, or one accessory can fit into two very different style statements. This part truly resonated with me because my mom has a tendency to give MK and I the same gifts. We're two years apart so it's been happening for a long time and I'm not complaining because she's the best gift giver! But there is a pretty good chance that if you see me wearing a gift from my mother, MK owns it too. This brings me to the point of this whole schpeel; my style is very different from that of my sister and mother yet our closets overlap in many ways. I want to celebrate the versatility of clothing and demonstrate how one item be worn in many ways and fit into to many different style statements. First up, J. Crew's Ratti Electric Kiwi Tank.

Jeans via Emerson Fry, Watch via Asos, Earrings via Furbish, Clutch via Anthropologie, Scarf unknown, and Shoes are Luxury Rebel via ShopBop

While my style is pretty classic, I do tend to dress more trendy and eclectic than both my sister and mom. We have an ongoing joke about how my mom thinks my style is more "bohemian". That's her go to word! While I'm not sure my style is bohemian, I definitely like a more layered and unique look.

JBrand Black Skinny Jeans, Necklace and Earrings via Stella and Dot, Jack Rogers Sandals , and Clutch via Clare Vivier

My sister's style is very classic, there is no doubt about it. She's also a little more feminine in her style. I think all the items above are pretty timeless yet still very current. That's her go to look!
Jeans via Not Your Daughters Jeans, Blazer via Zara, Shoes via Joie, Handbag via Kate Spade, Watch via Brooks Brothers, and Earrings via Debenhams

My mom has a more bright and playful sense of style than either of us kids. She's a pretty happy lady and likes to wear colors that reflect it. She's also more into matching, hence the reason I knew she'd love this peach crossbody to bring out the peach in the tank too! And if you're thinking the outfit above isn't overly mom-ish, I agree. I actually own a white blazer and similar chain watch. So that about brings this full circle. One item can be worn lots of different ways and fit multiple styles.
